Auto-Parts Maker Holley Files for Bankruptcy

Posted on September 28th, 2009 No Comments

High-performance carburetor and automobile fuel-injection system manufacturer, Holley PerformanceProducts, filed for bankruptcy on Monday. This is the company’s second filing in less than two years.

The privately held company said in court documents that sales have fallen 40 percent since it emerged from bankruptcy last year. The company was also hit hard by major customer, Catepillar Inc., discontinuing a line of truck engines.

Thomas Tomlinson, the company’s co-chief executive and chief financial officer, said that the debt-holders told the company they would consider foreclosing on the company’s assets if an agreement of forbearance could not be reached. This warning prompted Holley to seek Chapter 11 protection from creditors.

Will filing for bankruptcy ruin your credit score?

Posted on September 25th, 2009 No Comments

When people consider filing for bankruptcy, they worry that this filing will ruin their credit score and make it difficult to secure future loans. While this is true in certain circumstances, bankruptcy can also benefit a person's credit score in the long term.

By filing for bankruptcy, a person's credit score will likely drop. However, by securing a number of short-term loans and repaying them appropriately, a formerly bankrupt person can rebuild its credit score.

Ultimately, if you are so indebted that creditors will no longer lend to you, bankruptcy may be the only option, and your opportunity for improving your credit score will not be completely impaired by filing.

Bankruptcy Filings Continue to Rise

Posted on September 18th, 2009 No Comments

The number of bankruptcy filings have been on the rise for the last few months,  following one of the most serious economic downturns since the Great Depression in the early 30's.

The number of bankruptcy filings is expected to continue over the following months.  Many officials believe that with the economic recession set to last for at least another year before real recovery,  that the number of filings could be the most in recent history.  It will still take more time to determine if these predictions are accurate.
